1995 Honda Civic EX Vtec

Problem: The temperature gauge on the dashboard always indicated the car to be cold. Obviously, not working.

Solution: There could be a couple of things wrong, so I started the elimination process. First, I wanted to make sure that the temperature sensor in the engine (one wire only) was not faulty. I took off the sensor and grounded the wire. If the sensor was bad, the dashboard indicator should have moved all the way up. In this case, it didnt move at all. Stayed in the same place. This means that there is something faulty with the wiring most likely and the instrument panel. I will replace the instrument panel and test to see.

Actually, we found out the sensor was bad and replaced it. Everything worked again.

2000 Buick Regal - P0481

P0481

We are getting this code on a 2000 Buick Regal. I started by checking the fuses, checking the connector to the fan, basic 1st steps. I found out that the fuse (located under the hood) for Fan #2 was bad. I replaced it with another 15 amp fuse and reset the check engine code. This solved the problem instantly. After turning the car on, the service engine light did not come on. It used to come right on after resetting the service engine light before we did the fix.

2000 Nissan Sentra - P1491

P1491 - Manufacturer Control Auxilary Emissions Control

We are getting this code on the 2000 Nissan Sentra. We replaced the cutoff valve ($70.00 dollars from the dealer). This valve is a white plastic connector with 4 hoses attached to it. It is located right next to the evap canister. The code came up after a couple of days of driving. We then replaced the cutoff bypass valve which is connected to the cutoff valve. This has seemed to solve the problem.

2001 Ford Taurus - P0401

2000 Honda Civic EX - Radio Code

I was in need of obtaining a code to the radio for this car. After talking to the dealer, I learned that I needed to provide them with a radio serial code so they could provide me with a code. In this case, the seial number for the radio was m98d350329. The radio code resulted in 35446. I know that every car is different, but I just wanted to document the process for next time...

2000 Dodge Neon - P0456

P0456 - Evap Emission Control System Leak (very small)

I am getting this on my 2000 Dodge Neon. I have yet to fix the code. I am starting to document all the codes that I get and then I will edit the posts.

Solution: We ended up changing the solenoid and that did the trick.

1999 Dodge Caravan - P1495

P1495 - Leak Detection Pump Solenoid Circuit

I was getting this code on a 1999 Dodge Caravan. We ended up replacing the leak detection pump solenoid from another van and placed it in the van with the problem and the problem still wouldnt go away. We then replaced the computer on the car with another one of a same type van, and that did not work. As soon as you turned the car on you would see the "service engine soon" light. In fact, you couldn't delete the code from the computer. As soon as you hit "erase" code on the obdII tool, the tool would indicate that "1 code still remains". So, to put the story short, we found out that the sensor had a cable that was "open" -- not making a connection to the computer. We concluded and tested this with a voltmeter and following the sensor to the PCM. 2 out of the 3 wires were okay. The one that was not making it through was the white with a black stripe.

A start...

My name is Ed, and this is the start for my blog. I am going to concentrate in logging all of the important information on all car repairs that I experience. This way I will not only have this as a tool for me to solve a problem that I may have already solved, but also help someone else solve a problem that I may have already solved. I will start posting my results and finding as soon as tomorrow October 9, 2007. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
